Hi, I’m Jade
Creator of The Mum Edit – a personal development space for all things motherhood.
But before I begin completely oversharing the trials, tribulations and irrational thoughts that have whizzed, (and are still whizzing) through my head since I fell pregnant over a year ago, I thought it best I introduce myself properly.
In a nutshell, I’m 33 years old, a true Capricorn, and I’m obsessed with all things wellness and personal development.
I’m also a self-proclaimed control freak, a sun worshiper who is partial to a spicy margarita, and I continuously listen to Reggaeton Music (regardless of the season).
I’m A New (ish) MUM
I say new(ish) because I’m unsure as to the official length of time you can describe yourself as a new mum. At the time of writing this I’m 5 months in and on the one hand feel brand new, but on the other, feel like I can’t remember a time where I wasn’t scrambling to keep a tiny human thriving (in a good way, obviously).
I gave birth to my daughter, Reeva in November 2023, and I’ve been navigating the weird, wonderful, and sometimes utterly terrifying world of motherhood ever since.
Full disclosure, I love mum life. And my daughter is without a doubt my purpose. But mum life is full on, and I’ll happily admit that I was completely caught off guard with how utterly consuming it can be. And continues to be.
Decade Long Corporate Gal,
For the past 10 plus years, I’ve intentionally climbed the corporate ladder, to positions of senior leadership, one pair of polyester peg leg trousers at a time.
For context, being a Capricorn and all, I was born to be a corporate gal. Well-tailored power suits and the buzz of a conference room was my dream and being completely transparent, up until late 2022 I’d have told you I didn’t think being a mum was for me.
If anyone asked, and let’s be real, the minute my wedding band was firmly on my left finger, they asked - I’d tell them that I wasn’t ‘naturally maternal’ and that I was far too focused on my career.
In other words, if you had told corporate me that I’d one day be counting my daughter’s bowel movements as a daily win I’d have laughed so hard my lanyard would have snapped.
Certified Coach
In 2021, I decided to certify as a transformational Coach after becoming increasingly frustrated with continuously witnessing amazing women playing small, plagued with fear, doubt, uncertainty, and lack of confidence (especially after having children).
We were also midst of yet another lockdown and after far too much mid-week binge drinking, I decided I needed a new, more positive and less calorific way of channelling my energy.
Over the past 2 years I’ve coached some incredible women who have made the biggest changes, become their best selves, and created a life that doesn’t make them sob uncontrollably.
Certified Meditation Practitioner
Earlier this year, after years of reaping the benefits of meditation, I decided to become a certified meditation practitioner.
I originally began meditating after falling ill in Florida 7 years ago and, if I can be serious for a sec, I peg it as one of the best, yet underutilised tools we all have access too.
I’m so incredibly passionate about reframing the concept of meditation, especially now I’m a mum and my brain regularly resembles how a laptop would be should you drop it in the bath.
The Mum Edit
After being hit square in the face by postpartum-ness, I decided to put my training to good use and apply the tools I have as a coach to the haze of mum-ziety & sleep deprivation in a bid to make my experience as positive as possible.
I should note here that I’ve been lucky in that my experience with postpartum/motherhood hasn’t been at all negative. But as someone who thrives on change and being challenged I perhaps naïvely, underestimated just how big of a change it would be.
Or let me rephrase that – I underestimated navigating change whilst sleep deprived, full of hormones and with liquid leaking from a variety of body parts, simultaneously.
I loved coaching from the minute I began my course. But it’s only been in motherhood that I’ve truly learned to appreciate just how brilliant a tool Coaching is. One that is often not readily accessible to people, especially mums (thank you crap maternity pay) & it is my mission to change this.
What started as a little sole experiment, has turned into a complete passion project.
I’m so happy to have you here
In this little space of all things mindset, meltdowns & motherhood.
The Mum Edit is not a guide to parenthood. But simply the musings of a new (ish) mum with the tools of a Certified Coach.
My hope is that The Mum Edit helps you as much as it helps me.
Or at the very least I hope you have a chuckle. Because let’s face it, when it comes to motherhood, if you don’t laugh, you’ll most definitely cry.
